Hand loom weaving on table-top looms has become one of the newest and most exciting skills embraced by the Teviothead Weavers. A recent refresher workshop, led by well known textile artist Jan Beadle from Cumbria, has reignited the group’s passion for the craft — inspiring members to design and produce their own unique handwoven fabrics. The results? A collection of beautiful, practical, and truly original textiles.
The Teviothead Weavers first came together three years ago, thanks to funding from the Langhope Rig Wind Farm Fund, which allowed the purchase of six table-top looms. Since then, the group’s skills and confidence have grown alongside their creativity. Every session is filled with laughter, learning, and the joy of shared discovery — and, of course, lasting friendships.
Working with a wide range of fibres, from soft lambswool and luxurious merino to fine cashmere and cotton, the weavers also take pride in using locally sourced yarns from Burnfoot Farm in the nearby Ewes Valley. Each piece they create carries a touch of local heritage, craftsmanship, and community spirit.
